Mountain Plover (Bird)

Mountain PloverJoin other birders for a weekend of fun on the prairie in Karval, Colorado. Presentations will be given by staff from the Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory, US Fish and Wildlife Service, Department of Wildlife as well as local ranchers and scientists who have been studying mountain plover habitat for years.

The weekend will begin Friday evening with an ice cream social. Early risers can join a bird tour on Saturday morning before breakfast. Breakfast and lunch will be provided followed by evening tours and a chuck wagon dinner complete with western entertainment. Wind down the festivities with a second birding tour on Sunday morning followed by brunch.

Registration/Fee:The cost to register is $150 for the entire weekend (including meals and entertainment), $100 for Saturday only and $75 for Sunday only. Registration should be submitted by April 15, 2008. For more information, please call (719) 446-5354 .

Location:Karval is about 1.5 hours from Colorado Springs, near the Steels Fork Ranch (formerly the Smith Ranch). From Colorado Springs take Hwy 94 East to Hwy 71 at Punkin Center South 7 miles to County Road T, follow the black top to town. Accommodations for camping and motor homes can be arranged. Some accommodations with local residents will also be available.
